Why continuation training?
OK, so you've got your accredited course under your belt but still feel a little in the dark. This is where we come in, we have no restrictions on what, or how we teach. 'I need accreditation to get my licence,' I hear you say. NOT true. The SIA, who have failed to bring in legislation in the last fifteen (15) years have acknowledged that no course currently available is affiliated or sanctioned by them.
If you have completed a surveillance course you will already have some idea of the concept however, there is one vital key element: REPETITION
-
We teach you how to convert your own private or hired vehicle, temporarily or permanently into a fully functional covert surveillance platform.
-
We DO NOT teach still photography
-
We teach you how to fault find when equipment fails.
-
Explanation, Demonstration, Imitation precedes live exercises.
-
WARNING: We DO NOT use actors.
How are we different?
We take the time to recommend and demonstrate how to temporarily or permanently convert your own vehicle into a fully functioning surveillance platform and even supply a proven, compact pick up & go, pack containing everything needed to place in your boot and get to work. We continue to be operational, deploying for clients aside from offering training and whilst we do carry hand held cameras, these are for back-up purposes in the event of primary camera failure, or quick shot when the remote primary forward looking camera can not be brought to bear. Equipment will fail from time to time and the best way to fix the problem is to have knowledge of how your covert systems work, where fuses are and which one does what.

Although some initial acting during demonstrations is appropriate, we DO NOT use actors on practical exercises and although you will not be deployed on operations during the course you will be exposed to genuine covert surveillance risks, interacting with genuine unassociated members of the public. This means if you make a mistake you could experience your first loss or even your first compromise.
It's time to bring back the professionalism.
Licensing Legislation
In 2002 the SIA announced it has been directed by the government to oversee and take ownership of the licensing process for the Private Investigations Industry. Some fifteen (15) year later we still have no firm date for such introduction.
Currently there are a vast number of Surveillance and Private Investigative training providers across the country. Some qualifications are actually achievable via; distance learning.
All of these providers are under contract to train a minimum of 100 candidates per year in order to maintain accreditation status. Ask yourself; why would any person or group of people prefer to teach surveillance skills in preference to being pro-actively operational? Well, maybe it is not a preference but rather the by-product of having completed a course and rising to the supply and demand, meal ticket.
There are but a few training providers out there who in our opinion meet professional standards and more importantly, are experienced enough to pass on the appropriate skills set required to teach those motivated enough to take up the profession of surveillance operative.
What The SIA Say
We recently received an email from the SIA which confirmed the following, Quote; 'although there are many courses available, none of these are recognised for licensing purposes, as no such license for Private Investigations has been introduced.' The SIA can not comment on when/if licensing for private investigations will become written in law.
Consider This
Lets assume a private investigator in his or her attempt to beat the rush some years ago, purchased an accredited course. Some years later when/if regulation does come into force do you believe this man, or woman will automatically receive his/her license? Well, not necessarily.
It is our understanding that when/if licensing does come into effect, unless an accredited course has been taken within the last three years of license application, some form of revision course will be required, as is currently the case for the Close Protection license, as those of you with a military or Police qualification will know.
Do Potential Employers rate Surveillance courses?
Many big companies prefer to train in house and by declaring attendance of an accredited surveillance course a potential employee may be considered a risk to that company. The prospective employee may decide not to disclose his course which would then make the accreditation as invaluable as the paper it is written on, experience is everything.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process which facilitates a demonstration of competence and skill in order to achieve a recognised status.
It is our belief that the provision of RPL will be the achievable future route for both accredited and none-accredited private investigators around the country.
The Right to Decide
We have trialed a fair number of quick course wonders in recent years. Every single one of them did not display appropriate previous training or, to be frank, professional ability. A couple have even established websites and are now training people just like you. In fact, it must be said that only 1 operative of those tried to date proved to be suitable and he was an ex Marine but we don't hold that against him.
Those already established will know the first question from any potential new contact is always, 'What experience do you have.' NOT 'What qualification do you hold.' A piece of paper means nothing, experience is everything.

Operationally Driven Tuition

Until such time as licensing is introduced, the benefits of a surveillance specific, none-accredited course are worthy of serious consideration, not only from the experience point of view but financially.
The Benefits
-
Course content not restricted by the template of an accrediting board.
-
Teaching practices concentrate on current, proven operational procedures specific to Covert Surveillance i.e; no irrelevant teaching of matters relating to process serving etc and bad practices such as how to question the subject of your surveillance operation, which should never be a consideration.
-
Tutors are operational and current.
